Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One of the challenges with motorcycle wrecks, quite frankly, is that authorities don’t always give them the attention they deserve. I learned a long time ago in my career what plenty of riders already know: people are biased against motorcyclists. They’re quick to blame riders without actually knowing any of the facts. If officers don’t set this bias aside, it can result in families getting an incomplete or inaccurate picture of what led to a loved one’s crash.

Obviously, mistakes happen. I’d never suggest ignoring that. But if investigations don’t also consider things like vehicle defects, road hazards, tire failure, missing lights or signage, or other potentially unavoidable factors, then authorities are eventually going to miss something important the victim’s loved ones deserve to know. Hopefully investigations into this crash have been more thorough than that.
