Bastrop County, TX — November 22, 2024, Daniel Lee was killed and another person was injured in a car accident at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Farm to Market 1704.
According to authorities, 51-year-old Daniel Lee was traveling in a southwest bound Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck on F.M. 1704 in the vicinity southwest of the Woody Lane intersection when the accident took place.
Details surrounding the accident remain scarce. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone; it entered the northeast bound lane of the roadway where it was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming Chevrolet Suburban occupied by a 36-year-old woman. Lee suffered reportedly fatal injuries over the course of the accident. The woman from the Suburban sustained moderate injuries, as well, according to reports. Investigators should analyze evidence such as tire marks, debris, and the vehicles’ final resting positions to reconstruct the events leading to the collision. Witness statements and any available surveillance or dashcam footage could provide additional context, particularly regarding whether speed, distractions, or limited visibility played a role in the truck’s decision to pass.
Second, has anyone considered whether a vehicle defect might have contributed to the crash? While attempting to pass in a prohibited area suggests driver error, mechanical issues such as brake or steering failures cannot be ruled out without a thorough forensic examination of the Chevrolet Colorado.
