I certainly can’t shed light on what happened here beyond current public reports. However, I can reiterate as always that it’s important for a deadly crash like this to get attention from a well-equipped, experienced investigator. The challenge some folks encounter is finding out that doesn’t always overlap with investigations from authorities.
Frankly, I’ve seen authorities overlook all kinds of crucial details. Sometimes it’s something incredibly complex they don’t usually look into, like a defective seatbelt or poor road design. Other times, they’ve missed more obvious details, such as a driver being illegally over-served by a bar or a tire blowing out. And to be clear, I’ve also seen skilled, well-equipped officers do very thorough investigations and leave no unanswered questions.
At the end of the day, it’s about whether or not the victim’s loved ones feel they’re getting the whole story. If not, then it’s at least worth considering the possibility that the investigations weren’t thorough enough.
