Prosper, TX — September 18, 2024, a Dallas man was killed due to an 18-wheeler accident at around 11:25 a.m. along the Dallas North Tollway.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened along northbound lanes of the tollway near U.S. 380/West University Drive.

Officials say that traffic moving along northbound lanes of the tollway slowed down due to construction near the First Street exit. As traffic slowed, an approaching 18-wheeler reportedly failed to control speed and slammed into the line of vehicles. The driver of a Ford F-350, a 64-year-old Dallas man, was the first one hit. That man died as a result of the collision. There were no other confirmed injuries.
Right now, exact circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash are unclear. Investigations are ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
While specifics are unavailable right now, folks tend to see rear-end collisions as open-and-shut. The reality, though, is they often need extensive, thorough accident reconstructions to get the victims and families involved the answers they deserve. Even if this was something common like speeding, following too closely, or distracted driving, there could be more to this story than just a single reckless driver.
For example, I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, and a driver’s employer is often responsible for contributing to the crash. A company’s actions (or lack of action) can set the stage for serious accidents long before a truck driver gets behind the wheel. Was the truck driver rushing to meet an unreasonable deadline? Were they forced to work long hours? Were their brakes or tires worn due to neglected maintenance? Was the driver inexperienced or poorly trained? Did they have a history of reckless driving their employer overlooked? Did the crash involve a company that’s been involved in multiple serious accidents?
Failing to ask these kinds of questions risks letting a negligent company fly under the radar despite their role in a serious accident. Not only is that a disservice to the victims and families they harmed, but it allows them to continue being reckless until their behavior gets someone else hurt. So while I can’t say right now if anything like that happened here, it’s not something that a prudent investigator would ever let slip through the cracks. It remains to be seen if authorities here have given these possibilities the attention they deserve.
