Tyler, TX — November 2, 2022, Cynthia Delaine Eldridge was injured due to a motor vehicle accident involving two cars along W. SW. Loop 323.

Investigators said that the accident happened at approximately 2:25 p.m. at the intersection of W SW Loop 323 and Old Jacksonville Highway/FM 2493.

It appears that 69-year-old Cynthia Eldridge was in a Volkswagen Passat on the eastbound lane to merge onto southbound Old Jacksonville Highway. A vehicle behind Eldridge rear-ended the Volkswagen because, according to that driver, they thought Eldridge “had gone.”

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I’m curious to know what the exact speeds of the vehicles were here, because a vehicle thinking someone “had gone” sounds like stop-and-go traffic to me. The reason this stands out to me is that the victim’s injuries were said to be serious, but the description of the crash makes it seem like the collision should have been relatively minor.

So are the reports mistaken on how seriously the victim was hurt, or do they fail to accurately convey the severity of the crash? Is this something unusual where the victim was injured not due to the crash itself but rather some sort of defect, like a faulty airbag? If nothing else, I wouldn’t consider this the whole story right now, and it remains to be seen if authorities know more than they’ve released to the public.
