Harris County, TX — November 13, 2023, Cozell Taylor Jr. was killed following a semi-truck accident at around 12:30 p.m. along South 69th Street.
Investigations from authorities say that the incident took place outside Connie’s Seafood at 340 S. 69th Street, just off Wayside Drive.

According to officials, 43-year-old Cozell Taylor Jr. was outside of a garbage truck at the time and by the dumpsters outside Connie’s. Authorities say they believe the truck’s brakes were not set after the occupants exited the vehicle. As a result, the truck ended up rolling into Taylor and pinning him against the dumpster. This resulted in Taylor sustaining fatal injuries. The other individual involved was no hurt.
No further information about the accident is available at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It may seem simple enough that authorities believe this all was due to brakes mistakenly not being set. I don’t have any specific reason to believe otherwise, though that sounds like something most any worker would know to do. Was this really just an unfortunate mistake? Have authorities been able to rule out something like a mechanical defect? Was the truck in proper working condition? Did the victim’s employer skip in safety procedures or vital training? Have incidents like this happened in the past?
Again, I don’t have any more information about this accident than what’s already public. But I’ve had many work accidents come across my desk because what looked like a simple but tragic accident turned out to be foreseeable and avoidable. If nothing else, getting answers about a man losing his life should be a priority after any deadly accident, so I don’t see why this one would be any different.
