Guadalupe County, TX — November 18, 2024, a man was injured in a single-vehicle pickup truck accident at approximately 12:30 a.m. along Farm to Market 2538.
According to authorities, a 66-year-old man from Converse was traveling in an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on F.M. 2538 in the vicinity northeast of the Cibolo Creek bridge when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It was subsequently involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a fence.
The man reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a single-vehicle accident occurs, the assumption is often that the driver simply made a mistake. While that is sometimes the case, there are often other factors at play that deserve closer scrutiny. Determining what really happened requires asking the right questions.
First, did the authorities conduct a thorough investigation? It’s one thing to note that the pickup left its lane and struck a fence, but why did that happen? Did officers look into whether the driver attempted to correct his path but was unable to? Were there environmental factors, such as poor visibility or road obstructions, that contributed to the crash? Without a careful review, important details could be overlooked.
Second, has anyone considered the possibility of a vehicle defect? If the truck suddenly veered off course, was that due to a mechanical issue? Tire blowouts, brake failures, or steering malfunctions can all cause a driver to lose control, sometimes with little to no warning. Without a proper inspection of the vehicle, it would be impossible to rule out whether a defect or maintenance issue played a role in the accident.
Finally, have all available electronic data sources been reviewed? Modern vehicles contain event data recorders (EDRs) that can reveal whether the driver applied the brakes, made steering adjustments, or encountered a sudden failure. Examining this data could help confirm whether the driver’s actions were voluntary or if an external issue played a role.
At the end of the day, answering these questions could be essential to understanding what really happened and why. A thorough examination of all three of these issues—including the quality of police investigations, possible vehicle defects, and electronic data—is the least that can be done to ensure that those affected by the crash receive the clarity they deserve.
