Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Sometimes, people think the number of vehicles is a direct correlation to how simple investigations will be. On the contrary, single-vehicle wrecks can be a lot more complex than a typical car wreck. This is especially true if those involved were seriously injured, as they may not have been able to give authorities their side of the story. Unless authorities happen to be particularly thorough, they could overlook the evidence needed to fill in those gaps.

Did the vehicle have a defect? Did the driver have a medical emergency? Was the intersection missing signage or lighting? Does this sort of accident happen often at this intersection due to poor road design? Even if nothing unusual happened here, it’s important to rule out all possible factors. Otherwise, there’s no telling what might slip through the cracks.
