One of the biggest concerns about serious single-vehicle wrecks like this is whether or not authorities are going to base their findings on evidence from a proper accident reconstruction. It can surprise people when authorities investigate things, and it turns out they’re really just looking for someone to blame. While I certainly wouldn’t advocate for ignoring potential mistakes, car accidents often involve extenuating circumstances that need attention.
Mechanical issues, road hazards, faulty seatbelts, airbags, or brakes, poor road design or a lack of signage, etc. If authorities become too focused on looking for blame, they can miss important details that may show factors beyond the driver’s control contributed to the crash. While it’s not clear what all led to this crash, it wouldn’t be unusual if independent investigations showed something like that happened here.
