Harris County TX — June 17, 2023, Chris Irving Gray and two others were injured by an alleged drunk driver around 1:47 a.m. on East Freeway in Baytown.
According to officials, the victims were on a golf cart heading west approaching the intersection with Kings Drive when their vehicle was allegedly rear-ended by a drunk driver in a Ford Crown Vic.
The occupant, believed to have been sitting on the back of the golf cart facing the rear, reportedly told investigators that she saw the Crown Vic run a stop sign and that it was not slowing down. The driver of the golf cart told authorities she began pumping the brakes in an attempt to signal to the Crown Vic, but the Crown Vic purportedly did not slow down.
Investigators report two of the golf cart’s occupants jumped from the moving cart just before the collision, and it is unknown if the third occupant also attempted to jump.
It is currently unclear where Ms. Gray was sitting on the golf cart.
Officials report the driver and front seat passenger of the golf cart suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to a hospital. The backseat passenger reportedly suffered minor injuries and said she would go to the hospital with family members.
The Crown Vic driver was reportedly uninjured. Police recommended charging him with intoxication assault.
