Certainly, there should be some consideration that this all may have been unavoidable. Sudden tire blowouts and medical emergencies happen, after all. Many people, though, will rightfully be concerned this happened due to a mistake. Authorities are no doubt considering that, but are their investigations going far enough to catch any mistakes other than simple driver error? Let me explain why I say this.
Especially with commercial vehicles, there are often potential contributing factors besides things like distracted driving, driving while fatigued, or driving while intoxicated. There also has to be investigations into things like driver training, poor maintenance of the vehicle, pressure from employers to work long hours, companies hiring drivers that have a history of causing accidents, and other mistakes that happen long before the crash itself.
Unfortunately, authorities don’t always have the ability or the motivation to consider these outside factors. They may be able to catch important information at the scene of the crash, but pulling records, interviewing employers and employees, examining maintenance records, and otherwise taking steps beyond just the crash scene itself tends to fall through the cracks. It’s one of the reasons commercial vehicle wrecks typically require independent investigations from professionals more experienced with these more in-depth analyses of factors that can contribute to a serious accident. I haven’t seen any information yet that makes me confident those steps are being taken here.
