DeSoto Parish, LA — July 22, 2025, three people were injured following a cattle truck accident at around 1:15 a.m. on Interstate 49.
According to officials, the crash happened near the Stonewall and Frieson Exit along southbound lanes of the interstate.

Investigators said that a cattle truck was going along I-49 when the vehicle somehow lost control and overturned. As a result, cattle ended up walking on the interstate. Some time after the initial crash, a pickup then crashed into one of the cows.
Authorities say that both the truck driver and pickup driver as well as a child in the pickup had serious injuries due to the accident. Right now, additional details about the crash are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Given the unusual and chaotic nature of this crash, people might write all this off as just some kind of “freak accident.” In reality, though, something caused that cattle truck to overturn, and it’s important to find out if that thing could have been avoided. Doing so may require efforts far beyond typical accident reconstructions.
What were road conditions like? Did a tire blow out? Are authorities pulling the truck’s maintenance records? Are they looking at the driver’s hours of service logs to see how long they were behind the wheel? Was there any dash cam video of the crash? Was there another reckless driver who cut off the truck and fled the scene? Were there objects or other hazards in the road? Was there something wrong with the truck’s trailer that made it unstable?
Even if something seems unlikely, it needs attention. Frankly, across hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, I’ve too often seen authorities miss those kinds of possible factors. That’s why it may be prudent to have another set of eyes look over these events. Maybe this was just an unavoidable mishap, but maybe it was entirely preventable.
