Smith County, TX — February 22, 2024, Casandra Hughes was injured in a car accident just after 5:00 p.m. along S.H. 110, Troup Highway.
According to authorities, a Ford Taurus was southbound on Troup Highway just north of the Shiloh Road intersection when the accident occurred.

The Ford was reportedly attempting to make a left turn across the northbound lanes of the highway in order to enter a parking lot. Officials state that, for unknown reasons, the Ford attempted the turn at an unsafe time, failing to yield the right of way to northbound highway traffic. This resulted in a collision between the back right of the Ford and the front end of a northbound Hyundai Tucson occupied by 33-year-old Casandra Hughes, a 50-year-old man, and a 13-year-old boy.
Hughes incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the wreck. She was transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
