Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With any serious crash, it’s important to understand what steps are being taken by authorities to investigate the details. That sounds obvious to say, but people tend to assume authorities have crack CSI teams looking into every speck of evidence. The reality is many departments have enough on their plates, and crash investigations can fall low on their list of priorities. The result is victims and families who feel they’re not getting the answers they need have to seek alternative answers to getting those answers. That’s why independent accident reconstructionists are such a valuable tool available to people, on top of the fact they generally have better equipment and training to catch things like mechanical defects or poor road design, for example. Whatever led to this accident, I’ve little doubt independent investigations would be prudent step forward for anyone.
