Waco, TX — July 5, 2024, two people sustained injuries as the result of a car accident at around 2:00 a.m. along Colcord Avenue.
According to initial details from authorities, the incident happened at the intersection of Colcord Avenue and North 16th Street.

Investigators said that a 21-year-old woman was in a Kia Forte going westbound along Colcord. At North 16th, the Kia got into a near head-on collision with an eastbound Chevy Trailblazer. As a result, the woman was seriously injured. The other driver had possibly minor injuries. Right now, no additional details are confirmed.

Even in accidents like this, which sound as though authorities would have no issues getting answers, there could be extenuating, unusual circumstances to consider. For example, something that the public doesn’t often get to hear about is that some near head-on collisions shouldn’t result in serious injuries. Some car manufacturers have designed vehicle frames which effectively reduce the severity of an offset impact, helping to protect the people inside. Other manufacturers, though, ignore this feature because they’d rather cut costs. The end result is they unnecessarily put their customers in danger of suffering injuries that safer vehicles could prevent.
Now, this isn’t exactly a common problem, and it’s possible nothing of the sort contributed to this accident. My point is this is an example of a factor authorities tend to overlook. So when victims and families affected by a serious accident trust authorities to get them all the facts, it can surprise them to learn those investigations may come up short unless backed up by more experienced independent investigators.
