How Did This Accident Occur?

A single-vehicle crash where a car leaves the roadway can involve all kinds of factors. Distraction and unsafe speed are common factors. Or, maybe something unusual like a medical emergency or a vehicle defect led to loss of control. The goal is to make sure the crash is in the hands of thorough investigators who will focus on gathering and preserving as much evidence as possible. It might surprise folks how often that requires efforts beyond police investigations.

A lot of folks think car accidents are simple just because they’re common. However, not all department prioritize accident reconstruction. This can leave officers without the training or tools needed for more complex factors. I recall a crash I handled a while back, for example, where authorities falsely blamed a driver for not wearing a seatbelt. The officers found the victim had been thrown from their seat, so they just jumped to conclusions. We had independent professionals inspect the car, though, and they found evidence that the seatbelt was defective, and it failed to secure the victim.

I’m not saying anything like that happened here, but it’s an example of why a lot of families prefer having independent investigators look into crashes where the victim isn’t around to tell their side of the story. Independent investigators, might help confirm what police already know, or they may find crucial information authorities missed. Either way, it’s important families are confident that nothing is being overlooked.
