How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to hear-on car accidents, most people are quick to blame the ubiquitous “driver error”. After over thirty years in this career, I’m not so quick to jump to conclusions, though. Why? Because I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of head-on car accidents. I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which the investigation ended up unearthing evidence of less likely causes.
To be clear, I am not implying to know more about this specific accident than anyone outside of the investigation would. As far as I am personally aware, driver error remains on the table as a possible cause. However, I would like to point out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with one of the vehicles to lead to the collision. What if, for example, one of the vehicles experienced a tire blowout, causing it to veer into the oncoming lane? Or maybe there was in issue with the steering column? Vehicles are complex machines; honestly, any number of things could have gone wrong.
In-depth vehicle inspections would pinpoint any mechanical malfunction or product defect that played a role in the wreck rather than allowing it to fly under the radar. Hopefully the authorities get them done, even though it’s not routine in most investigations. However, if they don’t take that step, then a third party investigation can always do so instead. That way all the bases are covered.
In the end, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to not only how it occurred, buy why. That kind of clarity—real answers backed by solid evidence—simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
