The man who had been behind the wheel of the Forte—who had reportedly suffered fatal injuries due to the wreck—was declared deceased at the scene. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Upon hearing the limited details the news reports have to offer about this accident, many folks might be tempted to assume it must have been a result of driver error. I’m not trying to say that isn’t a distinct possibility. Human error does play a role in the majority of car accidents, after all. However, I’m not so eager to settle on that conclusion just yet. Over the last three decades in which I have been in this line of work, I’ve seen plenty of cases where thorough investigation managed to uncover evidence of less likely causes. Sometimes things don’t turn out to have been how they initially appeared on the surface.
To be clear, I’m not trying to appear as though I have more information about this specific accident than is already available to the public. As far as I am aware, driver error remains on the table as a possible cause. I just want to suggest a hypothetical. What if the collision was a result of something gone wrong with the Kia rather than driver error? For example, maybe it was dealing with brake failure? Or perhaps it had something going on with its throttle? True, these things are not very likely, but neither are they outside of the realm of possibility.
An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that had a hand in the wreck which might otherwise have slipped through the cracks unnoticed. Hopefully the authorities have the wherewithal to get one done. If not, then a third party can always be brough in to do so, instead; that way all the bases are covered. After all, the people affected by this accident—especially the loved ones left behind by the victim—deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to how and why it happened. Surface-level investigation just can’t provide them with that kind of clarity.
