Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With single-vehicle wrecks like this, one of the concerns is if authorities have the tools, time, and motivation to actually investigate some of the more complex possible factors. For example, mechanical defects aren’t common. As such, departments don’t always have the training and equipment to investigate them. So when they do happen, they often go overlooked, or their causes can’t be pinned down.

That’s why there usually has to be an investigation from a dedicated accident reconstructionist before all the facts are clear. It’s one of the reasons I’ve always relied on independent accident reconstructionists. They can catch small details that officials tend to miss. That way, if there was something unusual that contributed to the crash, it, too, can be addressed. Have authorities here been more thorough than usual, or would a closer investigation reveal they missed something?
