Dallas, TX — June 22, 2024, Cameron Summers-Horton was killed following an alleged drunk driver accident that happened overnight on Bonnie View.
Investigators at this time say that the crash took place at the intersection of Bonnie View Road and Simpson Stuart Road.

It appears there was an initial, minor crash involving an alleged drunk driver elsewhere in the area. That driver then reportedly left the scene of that accident. In doing so, the driver ran the light at Bonnie View and Simpson Stuart, resulting in a crash with 18-year old Cameron Summers-Horton. Summers-Horton was taken to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. It’s unclear if anyone else was hurt.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The driver who hit Summers-Horton is currently facing a charge for intoxication manslaughter. Even if the allegations here are true, that may only be part of the larger story here. I’ve seen talk from public officials about potential changes to the law to help address drunk driving. What’s odd though is no one is talking about how Texas already offers legal remedies to victims and their loved ones that I’m not seeing anyone talk about. Simply put, if the at-fault driver here was indeed drunk, were they over-served by a local alcohol provider?
Let me explain why this is important. Simply put, if bars, restaurants, liquor stores, or other establishments illegally over-serve someone, they can face criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability if people get hurt or killed. This works not just so families can see accountability for the wrongs done to them, but it also works to get those negligent establishments to clean up their act before their actions cause more harm.
So while we can talk about considering changes to the law that could help Texans, there are already legal remedies that can both help families victimized by drunk drivers and make our roads safer. Yet time and time again, I come across case where authorities never bothered looking beyond an individual driver’s actions. If there was really motivation to see accountability after a crash like this, there would also be steps to make sure there isn’t someone out there putting other families at risk. Are authorities here being equally narrow in their investigations? Is there more to this story that needs to be brought to light?
