How Did This Accident Occur?
While exact circumstances aren’t confirmed right now, authorities clearly believe that a driver failing to yield led to this crash. That seems pretty open-and-shut. A proper accident reconstruction shouldn’t stop there, though. Not only could the cause of the crash be more complex than it seems on the surface, but the cause of the victim’s injuries could be, as well. Let me explain.
It always stands out to me when a crash between two cars happens, and only one person has any reported injuries. There could be a perfectly ordinary explanation for that outcome. Sometimes, though, it can be a sign that something was different about the victim’s car. Did their airbag not go off? Did their seatbelt not lock? Is their vehicle not up to modern safety standards? I’ve even seen accidents where a driver’s entire seat came dislodged or broke, leading to unnecessary serious injuries.
That’s rarely the sort of thing a preliminary crash investigation will dig into. That’s especially true when authorities have an obvious “bad guy” to go after. So, instead of looking at a crash like this as open-and-shut, it’s important to take all car accidents seriously and ensure they get a thorough investigation from top to bottom. If nothing unusual happened, the evidence will show that. If something unusual did occur, then that evidence needs to be preserved as soon as possible.
Did it seem odd to anyone else that only one person was seriously injured here? Tell me your thoughts in the comments.
