Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Given the common factors that cause this sort of thing, I’d be disappointed not to see any kind of serious consequences for a man senselessly losing his life.

Taken into consideration how authorities describe these events right now. They didn’t say that a truck driver with an oversize load was just absentmindedly allowing the oversized load to hang out over oncoming lanes. Their description of the crash is that the truck drove into oncoming lanes. That’s not someone just being unaware of their cargo; that’s a driver being unaware of their whole surroundings.

So what went wrong here? Have authorities checked cell phone records? Did they determine how fast the truck was going? Did they check hours of service logs? Is this an experienced driver, or one who has insufficient training? Have they been in this kind of crash before?

I can only hope more is being done behind the scenes to ensure there’s an adequate resolution to this awful event. If authorities aren’t answering just some of the questions that come to my mind, I can only imagine what unanswered questions the victim’s loved ones would be left with.
