Henderson County, TX — September 13, 2024, Brenda Dunlap and two others were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at 7:06 p.m. on F.M. 316.
According to initial details about the accident, it took place in the area of F.M. 316 and F.M. 2854 near Eustace, northwest of Athens.
Investigators say that 53-year-old Brenda Dunlap was in a Kia Sportage going westbound along the roadway. While doing so, a Chevy HHR also going westbound reportedly failed to control speed, hitting Dunlap’s Kia as well as a Honda Pilot.
Due to the collision, Dunlap and two people from the Chevy had injuries. Authorities allege that the Chevy driver was under the influence of alcohol. No further information is available.

Anytime alcohol is alleged in a serious accident, people tend to think things are open-and-shut. The drunk driver is going to face charges, and that’s that, right? Well, there’s often more to the story, yet authorities may not realize it. A lot of alcohol-related crashes involve drivers who were unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider. Those alcohol providers can also potentially face consequences. This can include criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, and liability for the resulting injuries.
However, I’ve found that authorities are often quick to move on when there’s already someone facing charges. I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases. Countless times, families have come to us with questions, and our investigations found negligent alcohol providers that completely flew under the authorities’ radar because they never bothered looking. That means a lot of those negligent alcohol providers escape consequences unless victims and families find people more motivated to investigate beyond just the accident scene.
Maybe authorities here have been more thorough on their own, but that’s not something I’d ever take for granted.
