How Did This Accident Occur?
There are many possible factors to consider after a fatal crash, but I want to talk about one in particular. Authorities haven’t said if they’ve ruled out a possible vehicle defect. Frankly, though, I have to wonder if they’re even looking.
I’ve handled countless fatal accident cases across a more than 30 year career. Authorities almost never have the tools or training to rule out vehicle defects even if they wanted to. A lot of the time, they just look at the most obvious factors at the scene and move on.
Is a potential vehicle defect likely? Not exactly, but I’d bet that at least one person reading this or someone they know has experienced some sort of unexpected vehicle malfunction. Sometimes, those malfunctions lead to catastrophe, and that needs to be brought to light ASAP.
Even if there wasn’t a defect involved here, definitively ruling that out can be a significant weight off a grieving family’s shoulders. If there was a defect, though, not only does the family need to know, but also the public needs to know before anyone else gets hurt or killed.
