Dallas, TX — August 9, 2025, a man sustained injuries as the result of an alleged drunk driver accident at around 12:17 a.m. along Belt Line Road.
Preliminary statements about the crash say that it happened at the intersection of Belt Line Road and North Cockrell Hill Road.

According to officials, a 33-year-old man was in a Kia Optima traveling eastbound along Belt Line. A Mitsubishi Galant was traveling westbound on Belt Line. At the intersection, authorities say that the Mitsubishi failed to yield while making a left turn. It crashed with the Kia as a result.
The driver of the Kia reportedly had serious injuries due to the accident. The Mitsubishi driver had no reported injuries. That driver is accused of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Authorities recommended charges against the driver.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When someone is seriously injured and the driver responsible is accused of being intoxicated, it’s easy to assume that criminal charges will resolve the matter. But in reality, a DWI arrest or even a conviction rarely addresses the broader set of responsibilities that may have contributed to the crash.
If alcohol played a role here, a key question is whether the driver was over-served at a bar, restaurant, or other alcohol-serving venue. Under Texas law, businesses that serve alcohol have a legal duty not to over-serve patrons who are already obviously intoxicated. When they ignore that obligation, the risk of harm doesn’t just increase—it becomes foreseeable. And that’s exactly the kind of accountability Texas dram shop law is designed to address.
Unfortunately, evidence of over-service often disappears quickly unless someone actively investigates. Surveillance video is overwritten, receipts vanish, and staff memories fade. If no one asks where the driver had been drinking, the trail can go cold before anyone even realizes there was more to find.
Key Takeaways:
- Allegations of drunk driving raise important questions about where and how the driver obtained alcohol.
- Texas law allows negligent alcohol providers to be held accountable if they over-serve someone who is obviously intoxicated.
- Early investigation is critical—without it, key evidence of overservice may be lost.
