Bell County, TX — May 31, 2025, four people were reportedly injured following a boat accident at around 10:30 p.m. out on Belton Lake.
According to officials, the incident happened on a small island in the middle of the lake near Temple Lake Park.
Investigators said people were on a boat returning to Temple Lake Park when the boat’s light apparently “malfunctioned.” The people onboard were trying to use flashlights to navigate, but the boat crashed into the island.
Eventually, rescue teams reached the victims. Reports say four people were ultimately reported as injured, and one of them may have had a head injury. Currently, there are no additional details about the crash. Investigations continue.

It’s interesting that there are currently claims that the boat’s lighting “malfunctioned.” That may just be an initial interpretation of what happened, but it brings up concerns of a possible defect. Investigators don’t often consider defects in accidents like this, but it’s just as important to consider that possibility here as it would be in a car accident. Maybe the light here went out for perfectly normal, predictable reasons, but that’s something that the evidence should be able to say for itself.
