Dallas County, TX — July 17, 2024, Billy Mason was injured following a rear-end truck accident at approximately 12:15 p.m. along I.H. 35E.
According to authorities, 87-year-old Billy Mason was traveling in a southbound Ford Fusion on Interstate Highway 35E in the vicinity north of Pleasant Run Road when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Ford F-350 pickup truck with a trailer in tow was left parked and unattended in the active far-right lane of the interstate. The Ford Fusion reportedly collided with the rear-end of the pickup truck’s trailer.
Mason suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision, according to reports. He was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. When accidents like this occur, it’s natural for people to assume it’s based solely on driver error. However, in my experience, crashes involving parked or unattended vehicles on active roadways often have more complex causes that warrant thorough investigation.

Leaving a vehicle in such a hazardous location can create a dangerous situation for other drivers, especially on a busy highway where traffic moves at high speeds. Investigators will need to determine the circumstances that led to the truck being abandoned in that lane and whether the driver took appropriate steps to alert other motorists, such as using hazard lights or placing warning triangles.
