Montague County, TX — June 10, 2023, Billy Herron, James Echols, and Katelyn Smoot were killed following a car accident at 5:10 a.m. along U.S. 81.
Preliminary details about the fatal accident have been released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Their statements say that 78-year-old Billy Ray Herron and 78-year-old James Edward Echols were in a Ford F-150 that was traveling southbound along the highway. Along northbound lanes was a Chevy Silverado which was reportedly driver by 32-year-old Katelyn Beth Smoot. Due to factors which are still under investigation, the two pickup trucks ended up crossing paths and colliding head-on with each other.
As a result of this collision, Herron, Echols, and Smoot all sustained injuries that proved to be fatal. There were no other injuries mentioned in preliminary reports. Right now, authorities have yet to confirm official details leading up to the crash.
