Crockett County, TX — August 19, 2024, Billy Fenton was killed and Ronald Shaw was injured after a car accident at around 8:00 a.m. along R.M. 2083.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened several miles southwest of Ozona.

It appears that 63-year-old Billy Shane Fenton was in a Ford Ranger going northbound on R.M. 2083. 66-year-old Ronald Shaw was in a Ford F-250 going southbound. As the vehicles passed each other, they somehow collided. This resulted in Fenton suffering fatal injuries. Shaw had injuries described as non-serious.

Right now, exact details remain unconfirmed, though authorities mentioned looking into alcohol as a possible factor. That’s rather unusual to see after accidents at 8:00 in the morning. It could be that authorities here include alcohol in all of their fatal crash investigations. I’ve examined countless investigations where authorities mentioned alcohol. Sometimes it was a factor, and other times it was ultimately ruled out.
If it was involved, though, it can create a rather complex situation. A crash at this time of day caused by alcohol sometimes involves someone who was actually still intoxicated after being unlawfully, recklessly over-served by an alcohol provider the night before. There could be an alcohol provider, then, responsible for contributing to a fatal accident. Is that something authorities are including in their efforts? It’d be a shame if they brought up something as concerning as possible intoxication only to move on before really getting the whole story.
