Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
On thing to consider with a serious accident like this is whether or not authorities took the time to investigate things thoroughly. I’ve often encountered situations involving pedestrians and bicyclists where authorities are more inclined to jump to conclusions rather than conduct a careful accident reconstruction. This can lead to serious oversights, which is why a lot of people are more comfortable having independent investigators look things over. Since their priority is to let the evidence speak for itself, it can help ensure there’s a more accurate, complete account of what happened. Were those steps ever taken here?
