Austin, TX — April 30, 2024, Bernardo Garza was injured following a truck accident shortly after 6:45 a.m. along Aspen Glenn Boulevard.
According to authorities, 48-year-old Bernardo Garza was traveling in a southeast bound Toyota Scion on Aspen Glenn Boulevard at the McKinney Falls Parkway intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, allegedly because a southwest bound bus which had slowed and was making a right turn onto Aspen Glenn was blocking the view, the Scion entered the intersection in an attempt to turn left onto McKinney Falls at an apparently unsafe time, failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign. This, however, resulted in a collision between the front-end of a southeast bound 18-wheeler and the back-left side of the Toyota.
Garza incurred reportedly severe injuries as a result of the wreck. He was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Reports state that investigators believe the truck to be partially at fault for the accident, as well. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

When people hear about accidents like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large trucks often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.
First, it’s essential to determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision. What caused the Toyota Scion to enter the intersection at an unsafe time? The presence of the bus making a turn could have obstructed the driver’s view, but did the driver of the Scion misjudge the speed or distance of the oncoming 18-wheeler? Understanding these factors requires examining vehicle event recorders, traffic camera footage, and witness statements.
Next, the role of the trucking company and the driver must be scrutinized. Did the truck driver take appropriate measures to avoid the collision? Was the driver distracted, fatigued, or speeding? Trucking companies have a duty to ensure their drivers are well-prepared for the road, adhering to safety protocols and regulations. If the company failed to provide adequate training or pressured the driver to meet tight schedules, they might share responsibility for the accident.
Moreover, it’s important to assess the condition of all vehicles involved. Were the vehicles properly maintained? Mechanical failures, such as brake issues or tire blowouts, can significantly contribute to accidents. Reviewing maintenance records and conducting thorough inspections of the vehicles can reveal if such problems played a role.
Investigations must go beyond the crash scene to uncover the full story. This includes looking into the truck driver’s logs, evaluating their driving history, and possibly consulting with accident reconstruction experts. Only with a comprehensive approach can we ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Whether through obtaining vital evidence or, if necessary, conducting an independent investigation, it’s crucial to consider every factor to ensure that all who share responsibility for the accident are held accountable. This way, those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
