Dayton, OH — April 16, 2024, Benjamin Alvin Ernst was killed due to a semi-truck accident at around 1:40 p.m. on Needmore Road.
According to initial statements from authorities, the crash took place off the corner of Needmore Road and Wagner Ford Road.

It appears a motorcyclist, identified by Montgomery County officials as 65-year-old Benjamin Ernst, was going along Needmore at the time. While doing so, according to at least one source, authorities say a semi-trailer turning into a private drive went “into the path” of Ernst. As a result, the motorcycle and the truck collided. Ernst was thrown from the motorcycle, and he sustained fatal injuries.

Right now, authorities haven’t specified the cause of the accident. While it’s concerning to see some saying a truck “went into the path” of the victim, I have to wonder why there aren’t more stories saying that. Does that source not accurately represent what happened, or is there information here that other news sites haven’t caught onto?
The reason this is so concerning to me is because I see too many motorcycle wrecks slip through the cracks simply because people are just quick to blame motorcyclists. Despite how often larger vehicles cut them off or fail to yield to them, people still just imagine all riders as reckless daredevils. That’s why a lot of people who call our firm regarding motorcycle wrecks do so because they feel the crash isn’t getting the attention from investigators it deserves. I can only hope the lack of public information on this crash isn’t a sign that’s happening here, as well.
