Authorities at this time allege that a worker at the daycare repeatedly and aggressively shook the three-month-child while carrying the child and while it was reportedly in a bouncer. Allegedly due to these actions, the child showed signs of “unusual lethargy,” following which EMS was called.

The child was taken to a hospital where doctors reportedly found numerous injuries, including a subdural hematoma and hemorrhaging. As of October 24, authorities say they’ve charged a daycare worker with injury to a child. Additional details are unclear at this time.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

These are obviously disturbing accusations, though it’s not my place to comment on ongoing criminal matters. What I will say, though, is that incidents happening at a daycare are rarely open-and-shut just because someone is facing charges. There’s still the matter of understanding how this behavior was allowed to happen. Did the daycare worker display unsafe or aggressive behavior in the past? Do others at they daycare behave like this? Is there a negligent lack of oversight over employees who are responsible for the well-being of children? At the end of the day, folks who harm children deserve to answer for their actions. But as a parent, I’d want to know what guarantees there are this sort of thing won’t happen again. Are authorities looking into that?
