Tarrant County, TX — March 17, 2024, Ayani Nails was injured in a car versus hit-and-run truck accident at approximately 9:45 p.m. along I.H. 35W.
According to authorities, 29-year-old Ayani Nails was traveling in a northbound Hyundai Veloster on I.H. 35W, South Freeway, in the vicinity south of Seminary Drive when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Veloster was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow. The 18-wheeler allegedly fled the scene, the person(s) inside failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victim.
Nails, who had been the sole occupant of the Hyundai, suffered reportedly severe injuries as a result of the wreck. She was transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive necessary treatment.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A hit-and-run involving a commercial truck is a serious breach of both legal and professional responsibilities. When a truck driver leaves the scene of an accident without stopping to render aid, it denies the injured victims the assistance they might urgently need and obstructs justice by evading accountability.
In my experience, such incidents often involve a mix of panic and pressure. Some truck drivers may fear the consequences of the crash or feel pressured by tight schedules, leading them to flee. However, failing to stop is a clear violation of the law and basic human decency.
In this ongoing investigation, a few key areas should be examined carefully:
- Identifying the Truck and Driver: Physical evidence and witness reports are crucial to identifying the truck involved. Traffic cameras and nearby surveillance footage may also provide valuable information.
- Company Policies: Once the driver is identified, the trucking company’s policies should be reviewed to determine if they prioritize speed and delivery over safety and accountability.
- Driver Background: It’s important to investigate the driver’s history for patterns of risky behavior and see if similar incidents have occurred before.
- Electronic Data: If the truck is located, data from its electronic logging device could shed light on the driver’s activities leading up to the crash.
A lot of people lose hope when it comes to hit-and-run accidents that involved commercial vehicles. Over the years, however, I have observed that the majority of hit-and-run accidents such as this one usually end up being solved. A mechanic might see the damage to the truck and question it. Someone in the trucking company could also note the damage and bring it to the attention of those who need to know. The fact that responsibility for the crash was temporarily dodged does not mean that there will be no accountability in the long run.
