People often think single-vehicle wrecks are simple because there’s only one vehicle involved. But they can create significant challenges that authorities aren’t always prepared to handle.
For example, if the victims were seriously injured here, were they able to speak to investigators at all? It can surprise folks to learn that authorities often base a lot of their investigation on witness statements and statements from those involved in the accident. If someone is seriously injured and unable to speak to officials, it can leave gaps that authorities might use their “gut instinct” to fill in. This is when mistakes happen.
That’s one of the reasons independent investigators prove to be more reliable when it comes to getting answers. They’re diligent about getting as much evidence as possible, so they can often catch things the official investigations missed. Otherwise, they can confirm police findings and ensure victims and families have some peace of mind. Right now, I don’t see anything that makes me think this crash would be an exception to that.
