Fannin County, TX — December 14, 2024, Ashton Read was fatally injured following a car accident that took place just after midnight on Highway 78.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened near the intersection of State Highway 78 and FM 1629, just south of Bonham.
Investigators released few details surrounding the crash. It appears that 22-year-old Ashton Read was the driver of a Pontiac Sunfire traveling southbound along the highway. For reasons not confirmed right now, the vehicle left the road and crashed. As a result, Ashton Read sustained fatal injuries.
It’s unclear if there were any other injuries in the crash, and further information is currently unavailable.

There isn’t much information about what went wrong here, but no doubt some will jump to conclusions anyway. Simply put, I’ve been in this line of work for over 30 years. It doesn’t matter if someone’s hasty assumptions are right or wrong. What matters is that the victim isn’t around to give their side of the story. That’s why it’s important for families affected by fatal car accidents to feel confident investigators are getting all clear, convincing evidence. That way, they can be sure their loved one’s story is at least being told fairly. Whether or not that’s happening here remains to be seen.
