Fayette County, TX — April 7, 2023, Arthur Riley was injured following an alleged intoxicated driving accident just after midnight along U.S. Highway 290.
Preliminary details from officials say that the crash happened at approximately 12:17 a.m. in the area of U.S. 290 and Hills Road. It appears that 46-year-old Arthur Riley was in a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on the highway.
Authorities say that a Honda Accord was going westbound in the eastbound lanes. This led to the two vehicles colliding, sending Riley’s vehicle off-road where it overturned. Riley was said to have incapacitating injuries as a result of the crash while the reported wrong-way driver’s injuries were said to be non-incapacitating.

At this time, authorities allege that the Honda driver was intoxicated, saying they were both under the influence of alcohol and drugs. No further information can be confirmed at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If it’s true that the driver here was intoxicated, it wouldn’t be all that surprising. The vast majority of wrong-way collisions involve intoxicated drivers. After all, folks have to imagine how someone could be unaware they were driving into oncoming traffic, and it’s pretty rare for someone to do so intentionally.
Maybe something unusual happened here police haven’t talked about yet, but maybe this was just a typical scenario of someone on their way home from a bar after having too much to drink. Hopefully proper steps are being taken to look into the events preceding the crash so the victims and families involved know they’re getting the whole story and that there will be appropriate consequences for their troubles.
