Jefferson County, TX — August 30, 2024, Ariana Pitts was killed as the result of a car accident at around 10:10 p.m. along Interstate 10.
Authorities say that the crash happened off eastbound lanes of I-10 about halfway between Beaumont and Winnie.
According to officials, 30-year-old Ariana Pitts was in a Kia Rio going eastbound along I-10. The vehicle somehow left its lane, crashing into the end of a guardrail. As a result, the guardrail reportedly went through the vehicle, hitting and killing Pitts. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the crash. Additional details can’t be confirmed right now.

I certainly don’t know more specific information than what’s already public, but with any accident involving a guardrail, it’s important investigators analyze the railing itself for possible defects. Simply put, there are times where guardrails are supposed to warp and deflect away from a vehicle’s cabin space, but a manufacturing defect causes it to instead penetrate a vehicle, often hitting victims who might have otherwise survived the accident. Like I said, I can’t say if that happened here. However, if authorities aren’t even considering this possibility, they might miss something important the victim’s loved ones deserve to know.
