While I can’t claim to know anything more about this specific accident, the basic rules of gun safety prevent accidents like this. These rules are incredibly simple:
- All guns are always loaded. Period.
- Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target (and you have made the decision to shoot).
- Be sure of your target, what’s beyond it, and what’s in front of it.
When people are accidentally shot, 99 times out of a hundred, it’s because one or more of these rules weren’t followed. So what happened here that someone managed to shoot their neighbor? It would definitely behoove them to learn a lesson from this. Otherwise, the next accident may end up being fatal.
