If the allegations about intoxication is true, there are still more details to address to ensure the whole story is clear. It could be this all was as simple as someone being on drugs and causing a crash. More common, though, is that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, in which case there could be an accomplice to the accident: an alcohol provider.
Simply put, alcohol providers who unlawfully over-serve customers can face potential criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, and liability for the injuries the intoxication caused. Unfortunately, this is something authorities aren’t always motivated to look into. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers. It would surprise folks to see some of the egregious, reckless behavior alcohol providers engage in only for authorities to let them off the hook. They may only face consequences when the victims and families they harmed consider the legal avenues independent of the authorities.
Maybe nothing so complex contributed to this accident, but there needs to be a lot more evidence before anyone can say that for sure.
