People tend to think car accidents are simple just because they’re common. The reality is they can involve all kinds of complex factors, and even authorities aren’t always equipped to get the victims and families involved the attention they deserve. Were there road hazards? Did they pull cellphone records? Did they look for nearby security cameras? Was alcohol involved? Did the vehicles have any kind of defects? Is this intersection missing signage or lighting? Are there obstructions to visibility that frequently cause issues?
At the end of the day, these are the kinds of questions I expect answers to when I have accident reconstructionists look into a crash. Too often, they’re the kinds of questions authorities come up short on. Of course, if folks find authorities are able to provide clear, sensible answers, then it’s probably because authorities did a good job. But it’s all too common for people to find that details aren’t adding up, and that’s when they start to wonder how else they can get the answers they need.
