Polk County, TX — November 5, 2023, Angela Carol Baker and one other were injured following a possible drunk driving accident along U.S. Highway 190.

Authorities said in preliminary statements on the crash that it occurred in the area of U.S. 190 and Pichetto at around 9:45 p.m.

According to officials, 50-year-old Angela Carol Baker was the driver of a Nissan Rogue going westbound along the highway. It appears a GMC truck pulled in front of Baker to attempt a u-turn, and the vehicles collided. Due to this, both Baker and the other driver had incapacitating injuries.

Angela Carol Baker, 1 Injured in Possible Drunk Driver Accident in Polk County, TX

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Currently, authorities say that the GMC driver had been drinking. However, there is no confirmation that the driver was intoxicated, and it appears a blood test is pending. So it could be that tests come back, and they show drunk driving wasn’t a factor here. But if it was, things could become a lot more complex than a typical car wreck.

But what would be so complex? Wouldn’t that just mean authorities file drunk driving charges? Perhaps, but alcohol also requires looking into the possibility a local alcohol provider also broke the law. One of the reasons I’ve litigated hundreds of personal injury cases against alcohol providers is because many drunk drivers get into accidents after leaving bars, restaurants, and other businesses who over-served them. As a result, properly investigating drunk driving wrecks often goes far beyond just addressing the allegedly drunk driver’s actions alone—at least if authorities are being thorough.

Again, there’s no telling if alcohol did or didn’t play a role here without further evidence. But it’s important to remind folks that what authorities release to the public is rarely the whole story. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t more to this story, as well.
