UPDATE (April 25, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify some of the details of what occurred leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, 28-year-old Andrew Paul McCollum was traveling on a westbound Honda motorcycle along Watauga Road approaching the Park Vista Boulevard intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, an eastbound Mercedes-Benz on Watauga Road attempted a left turn onto Park Vista Boulevard at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the front-right side of the Mercedes-Benz and the front-end of the motorcycle. McCollum sustained fatal injuries. The investigation continues.

According to authorities, 28-year-old Andrew Paul McCollum was traveling on a motorcycle on Watauga Road in the vicinity of the Park Vista Boulevard intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. McCollum incurred critical injuries as a result of the wreck and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome the extent of his injuries, having there been declared deceased. No other injuries have been reported.
