My concern with any single-vehicle accident is if the investigations are being taken seriously. A lot of departments just don’t see them as a high priority, so officers may end up drawing conclusions based on what’s seen as the most likely explanation. As such, they may be right a lot of the time, but it inevitably leads to people being blamed for things that may have been beyond their control.
Did the vehicle have a defect? Were there issues with the roadway? Was the driver illegally over-served by a bar? Did seatbelts and airbags function properly? Did another vehicle cause the crash and flee the scene? Common or not, these things happen, and they need to be investigated. Even if it’s just to rule out those possibilities, it’s better than missing something important simply because no one bothered looking.
