Something that I’ve noticed over several years now is that the media doesn’t seem to care much about work accidents. People are killed on the job all over the state, but stories like this don’t often become public until months later when OSHA releases a bare-bones report. Now, this isn’t necessarily a problem if investigators are more thorough when giving answers to the victim’s loved ones. A lot of times, though, families end up with just as little information as the rest of us.

On top of that, Texas has the most complex work fatality laws in the country, which can only complicate things further if steps aren’t taken to prepare a family for those challenges. In my experience, a family who loses a loved one on the job just wants answers, and they want to see a fair resolution to a time of incredible hardship. An OSHA summary like this is important, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. It usually takes a lot more than that for a family to be able to navigate the legal maze that is a fatal work accident in Texas.
