Ventura County, CA — June 28, 2023, 16 people were injured following an Amtrak train versus truck accident at 11:19 a.m. off Los Angeles Avenue.
Authorities said they were called to the area of Los Angeles Avenue and Gabbert Road near Thousand Oaks. The Amtrak train involved was reportedly the Coast Starlight which was traveling between Los Angeles and Seattle.

According to officials, the train was carrying approximately 198 passengers and over a dozen employees. Ahead, it appears a tanker truck from the Ventura County Public Works was on the tracks. It’s unclear why the truck was on the tracks. This resulted in the train hitting the truck, causing the train to derail.
As a result of the crash, at least 16 people were injured. It appears the driver of the public works truck had serious injuries due to the crash. Other injuries were apparently minor. Currently, there are no additional details about the factors leading up to the crash.
