Arlington, TX — November 30, 2023, Amir Al Hweeday was killed and Deya Alhwaidi was injured following a car accident at around 1:30 p.m. on Division Street.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened off the corner of West Division Street and Crowley Road.

According to officials, 34-year-old Deya Alhwaidi and 22-year-old Amir Al Hweeday were in a Chevy Corvette said to be going westbound on Division. The vehicle apparently lost control on the wet roadway, and it careened into oncoming lanes where it was hit by a Toyota Tacoma.
As a result of the collision, Al Hweeday sustained fatal injuries. Alhwaidi had injuries described as non-incapacitating. Right now, additional details about the crash cannot be confirmed, though authorities suggested unsafe speeds could be a factor.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I have no particular reason to doubt investigators’ suggestions about speed, but I don’t necessarily have reason to take it face value, either. The reality is authorities can make mistakes and hasty assumptions. Oftentimes, officers see a vehicle lose control on a wet road, and they automatically jump to speed being the culprit. Frankly, that often turns out to be correct. But did they consider other possibilities? Road defects? Defective tires? A medical condition? Another driver who left the scene?
Regardless of what initial details may say, it’s important to consider all possibilities and to let the evidence tell the story. If nothing else, those affected by the crash deserve to know they’re getting the full story. Based only on these preliminary statements, it’s entirely possible there’s more to this story, even if it may not be that likely.
