Montgomery County, TX — December 28, 2024, Amada Marquez sustained fatal injuries due to an alleged drunk driver accident at 5:52 a.m. along F.M. 149.
According to preliminary information from officials, the accident took place in the area of F.M. 149 and Spur 149, north of Pinehurst.
Investigators said that 32-year-old Amada Marquez was in a Nissan Rogue going northbound along F.M. 149. While traveling, authorities say that a Dodge Ram going southbound failed to maintain its lane. As a result, Marquez’s vehicle and the Dodge collided.
Amada Marquez was killed as a result of the crash. The other driver reportedly wasn’t hurt. Authorities allege that the Dodge driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. A charge for intoxication manslaughter was recommended.

If the allegations here are true, my hope is that authorities didn’t end their investigations just because there seemed to be an obvious wrongdoer. Whenever alcohol contributes to an accident, it’s important to find out where that alcohol came from. Many deadly drunk driving accidents involve negligent alcohol providers who unlawfully over-served someone. That can expose those alcohol providers to potential criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, or liability for the resulting deaths or injuries.
Unfortunately, this isn’t always a priority for officials. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers for their role in a serious accident. I can’t count how many times it was our investigations putting the negligent alcohol providers on the authorities’ radar, not the other way around. Generally, that means victims and families felt they needed a second set of eyes on their situation, and those independent investigations uncovered facts that authorities missed because their investigations were too narrow or too hasty.
Perhaps authorities have been more thorough here, and they’ll ensure that all parties responsible for what happened here will face appropriate consequences. However, if there was still more to this story authorities have yet to uncover, that wouldn’t be at all unusual.
