Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Fatal accidents on the job don’t often get the attention they deserve. People tend to believe there are processes automatically in place to take care of the victim’s loved ones. In Texas, though, things aren’t always so simple. We have the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country. As a result, families may be at the mercy of the victim’s employer, who isn’t likely to prioritize the needs of the family. Getting a fair resolution, then, can depend on the family seeking out the right evidence, tools, and allies needed to navigate this legal maze. The sooner those steps are taken, the better.
