Edinburg, TX — March 31, 2023, one person was injured due to an 18-wheeler accident allegedly involving intoxicated driving along Monte Cristo Road.

Authorities said the collision happened off the corner of Monte Cristo and Doolittle Road at around 3:15 p.m. It appears that a dump truck was going along the roadway when an 18-wheeler apparently “drove against traffic.” This resulted in the two trucks colliding.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If the allegations here prove to be true, there will no doubt be serious consequences going forward. But will that just be a reckless, intoxicated driver, or will it include a negligent employer? In my years of experience, investigations into commercial vehicle drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs tends to show that driver had a consistent problem with impaired driving. They don’t usually just wake up one day and decide to get drunk or high before a day of work. More often, it’s an issue that a responsible employer would be able to catch at some point so they can remove that person from the road before people get hurt or killed.

So what happened here? Was this an individual driver who happened to get caught before someone died, or was this an employer that failed to remove a dangerous driver from their employment before something went wrong? It will no doubt be an important step in the investigations going forward.
